Chemistry Research Goes on the Road

Nicholas Hale ’26 attended the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS) in Atlanta, Georgia to present research he conducted during a recent SURI project.

The American Chemical Society (ACS) is one of the largest scientific societies in the world, and the southeastern regional meeting brings together chemists from all over the southeast and beyond to present cutting-edge research in all areas of chemistry.

Nicholas Hale '26 and Mr. Caleb Brown, VMI Chemistry

Cadet Hale’s project entitled “Synthesis and equilibrium dynamics of intramolecular frustrated Lewis pairs” focused on studying a series of transition metal complexes that were designed to explore how variations in their structure might influence their ability to act as catalysts for chemical reactions. The project combined experimental and computational studies which greatly enhanced the impact of the work, which is still ongoing.
