A native of Algeria, Dr. Sabrina S. Laroussi has been at VMI since 2015. Col. Laroussi received her BA in Hispanic Studies from the University of Algiers (Algeria), her MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from University of Alcalá (Spain), her MA in Spanish from Texas Tech University, her MA in French from Texas Tech University, and her Ph.D. in Spanish from Texas Tech University.

Professor of Spanish and the Spanish Program Coordinator, she teaches courses on Spanish and Latin American literature, cultures and film, in addition to Spanish language courses. Since her time at VMI, Col. Laroussi has founded and directed the summer study abroad program in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) and served as the chapter adviser for the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi, and co-adviser for VMI Building Bridges Club.

Her academic research interests include metafiction, the grotesque, representations of violence and death in contemporary Latin American and Peninsular literature, culture, and visual media, as well as cultural ramifications of drug trafficking in Colombia, Mexico, and Galicia. Her scholarly work has appeared in Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Studies in Latin American Popular Culture and Letras Hispanas, among other journals. She is the co-editor of two book volumes, Reescrituras del paradigma. Alteridad y género en el mundo literario hispánico, and Crear entre mundos: nuevas tendencias en la metaficción española. She is an active member of the Foreign Language Association of Virginia (FLAVA) and currently serves on the Publications Committee of the Modern Language Association (MLA).
