Dr. Aksel Seitllari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), where he teaches courses in civil infrastructure, transportation engineering, and engineering materials. Dr. Seitllari holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University, a Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Oswego, and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) and ENV SP credentialed practitioner. His academic career spans multiple higher education institutions and is complemented by professional industry experience, bringing a strong applied perspective to both teaching and research.
Dr. Seitllari’s research centers on pavement engineering and civil infrastructure systems, with a focus on improving the performance, resilience, and long-term sustainability of transportation infrastructure. His work addresses two complementary directions: the integration of sustainable materials, carbon sequestration strategies, and green technologies into roadway engineering; and the advancement of constitutive modeling of roadway infrastructure materials through computational intelligence and data-driven methods. Together, these efforts aim to deepen the understanding of material behavior, yield innovative solutions, and enhance the durability and environmental performance of infrastructure systems.
His scholarship has been disseminated across academic and industry venues, advancing resilient infrastructure, performance prediction, and sustainable design.
