How Do I Take Summer Session Courses?
Cadets enrolled in the Spring 2026 semester and in good standing may register for Summer Session directly through Post View.
Cadets who have been absent for one semester or more must contact the Registrar’s Office to confirm your status and receive guidance.
Incoming students should refer to the Summer Transition Program (STP) page for approved course options and program details.
Students matriculating in August 2026 are not eligible to attend Summer Session unless approved in writing by the Superintendent. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Director of Summer Session and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Special Summer Programs
In addition to standard course offerings, a number of specialized programs are available for VMI cadets – and incoming appointed students – to advance their academic pursuits and take learning beyond the classroom.

Summer Transition Program (STP)
Designed to strengthen academic and physical preparation for incoming cadets. Open only to appointed students entering in the fall.

Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI)
Cadets conduct original research as principal investigators under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Summer Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program (SUEP)
A five-week program combining coursework, site visits to start-ups, and interaction with alumni and business leaders.
